Ram lambs, ram lambs, everywhere I look there are ram lambs......

Just returned from vacation (Kylie will be posting more on that later).

Noticed I have a bunch of good looking ram lambs that I need experienced people to comment on as far as conformation, fleeces, horns, and tails.

As I haven't been around and I tried not to make my ram lambs too friendly before I left, I accomplished that part...but in turn it made it hard to get pics.

I'll try to group who is who, and if anyone is interested in any of these boys please speak up and I will do a strict photo shoot on that lamb as well as take good fleece pics and send a sample.

All the fleeces seem to be good and even. Mostly intermediate I think (spoken from a true novice).

Dad is Stonehaven Duncan, fawn katmoget, single fleece.

Valentines (Stonehaven Valeria Moorit) boy didn't have horns for quite awhile and now he has some that I am wondering if they are scurs? He is a luscious dark brown, his tail appears to be a bit wooly....thoughts?

WSR Rechels (Grey Flecket)boys...thoughts on color? the brownish boy also has white hairs on top of his head. The other boy...grey, I guess? though it is an unusual gray.

Sheep Ridge Princess Aurora (Mioget horned) had a lovely brown boy, HUGE horn buds...

Stonehaven Ilse (Musket) had a beautiful Katmoget boy....

Boulderneigh Bella (Grey Flecket/Katmollet) had a stout little gray katmoget ram lamb. He has held his own and has quite th personality!

The one and only ewe lamb I got was out of Stonehaven Flora (black) definitely a katmoget...color? fawn? grey?

So.....what are your thoughts? Thanks in advance!!

Valentine's ram has horns that look pretty much in line with all your other ram lambs' horns -- except for Aurora's. My GOODness, I've never seen anything like THAT coming out of a lamb's head! All your fleeces look consistent and lush, and tails are typey.

I can't offer any comments that are useful to you. But Ilse's boy has stolen my heart. Look at the profile on that guy!

I know the feeling... I've got too many boys as well! You do have some nice lads though. I'm with Michelle on those horn buds: never seen anything that size before!! Valentine's boy is a lovely deep colour and I like the wool on his cheeks. Looks like those could be scurs. No use me looking really though, unless they have wings!!

several of your katmoget rams look to be Ag also. They CAN be both Ag and Ab and many of your katmogets look to be like that. You can tell by the lighter scrotum and the 'sugar lips' on their nose are teltail signs of Ag. And its nice because Ag and Ab and AT (Ag, Katmoget and Gulmoget) are all co dominant so you can get both on the same animal! Fun huh? :)

Here are my comments ( for what they are worth):
Valentine's has a color to die for his tail is ok and his horns are ok so far but too early to tell
Rechel's brown ram has concerning curling in to his horns. The grey one looks like a faded katmofet but will likely fade to a plain grey.
Princess Aurora's has very unusual horns and an outstanding tail. If his horns grow well he might be a keeper for his unusual horn genetics
Ilse's and Bella'd have nice tails and horns but nothing spectacular like Valentine's and Aurora's.

But as you know there is nothing like hands on evaluation. If there is no urgency to wethering them you could bring them all to the Skagit and get them judged by the judge and by your fellow Shetland sheep breeders. This has been very helpful to me.

They are all handsome - I really like Isle's boy. Those are HUGE horn buds on Aurora's lamb - even by Jacob standards.

I think they are all super cute and would not be able to eat any of them!!

They are all awesome to me but I am not an expert. We do not have many in our area. But I saw 2 that were badly sheared at the animal swap. I could tell by looking they were old and not a buyable lot.

Nice to see you around again. I hope your vacation was fun, restful and everything you had hoped it would be. :)

Have no opinions on the sheep with my inexperience, except to see that is sure a lot of ram lambs. And I prefer the fawn/grey coloring the best.
I'm still processing wool over here. Just finished washing all but the karakul sheep wool. I have to do it when the weather is hot and sunny, so I can leave the wool out to dry on my bedroom balcony. During summer in NM, wool will dry in a few hours. :)

Next I will be handcarding, followed by spinning all my fleeces: llamas, angora goat(mohair), churro sheep and karakul sheep.
Whew!
I think I will hold off on any knitting projects until Fall, though. All that warm cozy wool makes me sweaty. lol!

What are your plans for your wool this year?

Any chance you'll be passing through east TN anytime soon? I want the gray one--Bella's baby. I love that one! But alas, only two problems....1) he's a ram rather than a wether and 2)it's a bit far to drive in one day.

But I do love him!
