Calling Fowl.....

Or I guess in my case, foul.

Some of you probably remember my Turkey Boys post, but what most of you probably don't know is that they disappeared one day. We suspect two legged predators as they were both good size, disappeared during the same time, and left no feathers/signs of a struggle.

It was very depressing thinking about my friendly boys being eaten in someones sandwiches and I tried to think about that they had a good life while they were here. I only hope they were dispatched humanely.

Here's a couple of pics of my Turkey Boys in all their glory......

I really enjoyed having turkeys and decided to try again. I picked up a couple of Wild crosses and some Narragansetts. I kept them penned until they got to be of decent size and then released them to be free range with the rest of my poultry. There was a little squabbling and the Peacock thought "HEY! look at all the homely looking peahens....but what the heck??!!" :) They have settled in nicely and I'm starting to think about names for them all.

Here are some pics of the youngsters.....

On another note, of calling foul (or in their case, fowl) the dogs spooked the young guineas to where they flew up to the top of our garage roof. They were definitely starting to sound like guineas, and seemed to have no idea how they got up there or how they were going to get down. (Eventually they did fly down.....I was beginning to worry that I was going to have to start feeding them up there...)

It was then that I realized that their "keet cuteness" was starting to diminish. So I thought before the next full moon that I should post some pics of them while they still have the cute factor going for them.

And thus ends another episode of As the Feather Flutters......:)

I've never thought much about turkeys except as something yummy for Thanksgiving, but your turkeys have opened my eyes to their beauty and uniqueness.
I love that photo of your two previous boys sounding out side by side.
It really stinks that someone would just steal them from you like that. How awful!

Your guinea keets are adorable!
I can't wait to hear about other funny antics that they get into as they grow. I've read that they can move very fast and do some silly things. hehe

Oh! And I really admire your weathervane. It's so different and unique :)

Hi Lisa, :) our weathervane is an osprey because we have an enormous osprey nest right on the property next to ours.

They come back every year (the migrate to S. America in the winter) and raise a family and then leave again.

I'm not sure how many years they have been doing this but they were there when we bought this house 14 years ago.

What beautiful turkeys! I love to look at them but haven't tried raising any yet. I'd definitely choose a heritage breed if/when I ever do. Too bad people steal from others like that, especially animals. Don't they realize they're not just birds to their owners???

OH I am so sad to hear about the turkeys! I hope it doesn't happen again but maybe thoes guineas will let you know next time the bad guys appear!! I love the pictures of the keets on the roof, today two of my 18 week old guineas flew about 150 feet to me!! They looked like wild turkeys coasting to my feet!! I was thrilled. One of the two has a very bad leg and I just can't believe she is doing as well as she is! I worry so about them!

The turkeys are so beautiful. Here the price is so high, it is like $8.00 a 1 day old and 25+ for a older one. I hope if we her out place out of town limits we can get some. I read they were kinda hard to raise.

There are some wild turkeys at the nursery where The Shepherd works - he really likes them - all your bird pics are great -

You have such a beautiful view from your place. It's a good thing you have to leave early in the morning (while it is dark?) - otherwise I'd be tempted to have another cup of tea and watch the view. T.

How horrid that someone would take your guys! I agree with Eve--the guineas will let you know next time someone comes sneaking around.

And as Lisa said, it really stinks that some low-down thief took them. Sheesh...!
