Toy Free Zone

Here I am recuperating, and now poor Kylie has joined me.

She had been limping off and on for about two weeks, usually it wasn't too bad and other days she didn't want to stand on her left front paw.

I initially thought she had something embedded in her foot, not unusual because nothing stops her from plowing over or through anything.

I couldn't find anything, trimmed the hair out between her toes, checked her toenails for any splits, there didn't seem to be any swelling and she didn't seem overly sensitive to being touched anywhere. I finally gave up and took her to the Vet.

Now, being a good blogger I would have remembered to take my camera with me....but I didn't. :( We went to our "local" Vet. My dogs have a group of Veterinarians....we have our Holistic Vet, Dr. Larry Siegler of the Animal Healing Center(which is 45 minutes away), Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital for our late night and weekend emergencies (Dr. Taylor Wallace performed Kylies emergency spay when she came down with pyo at 9 months), and for the everyday visits, Alpine View and Dr. Blake Murphy.

Dr. Murphy checked her out good, and Kylie really likes him....constantly trying to slip him the tongue when he gets his face too close. We did a flexion test like what you would do with horses...and she recovered quickly with just a minor limp.

Hmmmmm could be elbow, could be shoulder, could be ligament.....could do x-rays but not really sure that would show us what was going on. We decided (Dr Murphy and I....Kylie just thought she should hang out there longer and get more treats) that we should put her on an anti-inflammatory and keep her from running around. No small feat with a little over a year old working bred Belgian!

So, back at home we try to take it easy. At this point I want to apologize for any poor housekeeping....I haven't been much in the mood lately (like I ever am......)

Kylie got tired of just laying around and decided to try and engage me in some play. She tried one toy after another to see if something really appealed to me.....

Hey Mom, how about this one?

C'mon you know you wanna.....

Ok, Ok, I'll play a little tug....don't you know "I'm" supposed to hold onto the handle though??

I had to quit after awhile, so she figured it must have been I was tired with that toy........

How about this one?

Pretty please???.....

OK, this one is a nice color, and it has all kinds of things to hold onto.....

NO?? Well, what about this one? It grunts AND squeaks!

Ah! I knew I could get you to play with this one....

I decided to change locations for a change of scenery, into the living room where I can see the valley.

Time for new toys! Ah! Here's one, you know you love the wiener dog, even though it now is missing an ear....

OK, how about one that you can play with by yourself? Is anyone familiar with Egg Babies? They are a toy that had squeaky eggs that you can stuff inside the different toys...Kylie has a platypus, a turtle and an alligator. The problem is that it doesn't keep her busy for very long....once she figured out how to remove the eggs it's down to just seconds to extract them from their "mother". The plus is she likes playing with the eggs almost as much as removing them from the toy. :)

I would like to think there is a "toy free zone" in my house but with all the opportunities how can I really think such a thing would exist??? :)

And now just a little "shout out" to the people that have tagged me...I recently was tagged by Melanie, Our Wee Farm, and over a month ago I was tagged by Joan of Mud Ranch.....(oops)and it seems to me I was tagged by one other person...could you please refresh my memory? My challenge to myself this weekend is to complete the tagging task and pass them on to some other deserving people! :)

Did I miss something? What are you recuperating from?

I just received two new toys for Jackson that I bought on eBay, both Nylabone brand. He likes them both, and now will hopefully stop throwing the HARD nylon wishbone around in the house!

I've got to make sure that the dogs don't see how many toys Kylie has. There could be a revolt!

Hope you are recuperating quickly--and like Michelle, I didn't realize you were under the weather.

What a funny post. Kylie is so determined to find 'you' just that right toy! I love it. Boone (the french mastiff) runs like a maddog in the morning, bounding around, and he doesn't have a bit of sense about it, so that he is usually limping a bit in his front leg by mid day. What kind of anti-inflammatories did the vet put Kylie on?

Hi Michelle and Pamela, nothing much just a cold that didn't want to release it's grasp.

Tammy, the anti-inflammatory that the Vet gave me for Kylie was Deramaxx.

I had to laugh at this post...this is the routine we go through with Roxy *every* night..until we are surrounded by a pile of toys. Glad to see we aren't the only ones that have a toy basket devoted specifically to our farm dog! :-)
I hope you feel better soon, Tammy...I hate those lingering colds.
Kylie is gorgeous.

Awww, she's such a pretty dog!!! That's the same look my puppy-girl was giving me just a minute ago, as she silently (but painfully, with those claws of hers) asks me to get off the dang computer and play with her. *grin* Hope her paw/elbow heals quickly so you can play with her again in good conscience. (Oh, and my girl has at least a half-dozen bouncy balls for playing fetch, and at any given point, half of them are under the couch.)

Oh, she has such fun toys. There's a cute little hedgehog and is that a little brown chickie I see? I want toys like that!
