So emus like human loving, too? Or was that just a random head pat, there in that one pic? I've been wondering, are you raising emus for the joy and companionship they bring or do they provide something else, too? I've seen an "emu farm" on the way to the Lighthouse Sanctuary - they are such cool looking birds!
Mary, I have wondered that myself...but I think it would be pretty tricky to get them back in their pen if they didn't want to go!:)
Danni, the female, Ginger, is VERY friendly (and according to the breeder I got them from it is usually the males that are the friendliest). She will lay her head against your chest and just let you skritch and stroke her neck and back feathers. She closes her eyes and makes little cooing noises. :) Fred, on the other hand is very stand-offish. He'll let you stroke the back of his neck and back every once in awhile but he would rather just keep his distance.

Aw, that was really cute! So your animals are kissing on a Wordless Wednesday - over at the Ark, Sheba was only sleeping... but wordlessly so!
I second the AWWWWWW!!!!
Too sweet. Emu love!

Gosh, that grey ewe looks just like my Rosie! Must be bonkers to be kissing emus though, still don't trust those big birds after my zoo keeper days!
Very cute. They seem to have made friends through the fence line. I wonder what would happen if you turned them in together? AWWWWWWW!!!
It looks like your emus are friendly. My husand keeps saying he wants an emu...that's how we ended up with the pot-bellied pigs.
